![]() The band was imaged by NASA’s Voyager 2 spacecraft in 1989, and may be tied to circumpolar circulation created by high-velocity winds in that region. The clouds are tinted pink because they are reflecting near-infrared light.Ī faint, dark band near the bottom of the southern hemisphere is probably caused by a decrease in the hazes in the atmosphere that scatter blue light. In the Hubble images, absorption of red light by methane in Neptune’s atmosphere gives the planet its distinctive aqua color. It is early summer in the southern hemisphere and winter in the northern hemisphere. These Hubble views reveal that the cloud activity is shifting to the northern hemisphere. The snapshots show that Neptune has more clouds than a few years ago, when most of the clouds were in the southern hemisphere. Instead of lasting a few months, each of Neptune’s seasons continues for about 40 years. The giant planet experiences seasons just as Earth does because it is tilted 29°, similar to Earth’s 23° tilt. The clouds are composed of methane ice crystals. The images reveal high-altitude clouds in the northern and southern hemispheres. The snapshots were taken at roughly 4-hour intervals, offering a full view of the planet. ![]() These four Hubble images of Neptune were taken with the Wide Field Camera 3 June 25–26, during the planet’s 16-hour rotation. Under the Sun’s weak pull at that distance, Neptune plods along in its huge orbit, slowly completing one revolution approximately every 165 years. The planet is 2.8 billion miles (4.5 billion kilometers) from the Sun, 30 times farther than Earth. At the time, the discovery doubled the size of the known solar system. German astronomer Johann Galle discovered the planet September 23, 1846. Neptune is the most distant major planet in our solar system. To commemorate the event, NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has taken these “anniversary pictures” of the blue-green giant planet. AND a lovely time to meditate.Įveryone: Neptune will turn direct again on December 3 meanwhile, the fog lifts.Today, Neptune has arrived at the same location in space where it was discovered nearly 165 years ago. THAT is the time to make major decisions and move forward on projects which up till now may have seemed hesitant or uncertain in their progress. When Neptune is retrograde it is clear-headed, positive and certain about its course, all confusion gone. Neptune moves into retrograde every year for about 150 days this year it occurs on June 29 th. Currently it’s in the sign of Pisces so wherever Pisces is in your chart is the area where Neptune is slowly transiting. Neptune takes about 165 years to do a complete revolution around the Sun, thus spending about 14 years in each sign of the zodiac. ![]() Since more than half of us have this planet direct in our charts it behooves us to take full advantage during the times Neptune goes retrograde, both as a group called humanity and personally. When direct, Neptune CAN be the most insidious, confused, devious, negative planet in the zodiac. ![]() Of all of these, Neptune retrograde is the most spiritual expression of any planet. Also, as esoteric astrologers, we consider the retrograde expression of a planet far more spiritual than its direct counterpart. We call these the generational planets since they are not personal but affect whole generations. But a couple of slower-moving (relatively speaking) planets can offer interesting transit information. Progressions provide information about the temporary dynamics and energies impacting us as a kind of pattern which we can work with. “Lift the veil that obscures the heart and there you will find what you are looking for.” KabirĪs esoteric astrologers we pay more attention to progressions than to transits since the speedier planets are here and gone so quickly that it matters little when we know we have lived many lives and will live many more. ![]()
